Recently there have been several content mills that have been letting writes go, putting out fewer assignments or have changed their writing requirements so that it is definitely not worth the time or money to write for them anymore. I’m talking about places like Demand Studios, Merchant Circle, and Wise Geek. If you are one of those writers who have been let go or can’t find enough work to meet your income goals, I have some good news for you.
You don’t have to depend on content mills to make a living as a freelance writer.
I know that a lot of people tend to start out at content mills because they feel safe or they know that they will have work instead of having to go look for clients to write for, but the past few months have been evidence enough that content mills are not safe and work is not guaranteed.
Anyone who is solely depending on content mills to make a living as a writer online is going to want to think twice about this decision. What if tomorrow Demand Studios decided they didn’t need any more articles from you? Would you still be able to pay your bills? Would you know where to look for writing work? Would you know how to land a private client that would be willing to pay your writing prices (which should be higher than content mills anyway)?
If you want to have any type of security in this freelance writing world you are going to learn how to find people willing to hire you for writing jobs. You need to learn how to market your writing so people seek you out rather than having to apply to a writing job that 300 other people are applying to as well.
If you are a writer who is frightened or overwhelmed by branching out from content mills, then you may just not survive in this business. In fact, if you are not willing to market yourself or branch out away from content mills, then you may just be looking for a job outside the home this year.
I have help for you and it can truly change your freelance writing career.
You are going to have to reach outside your comfort zone and you are going to have to spend a few dollars learning from real writers who are making 6 figures a year and they aren’t writing for content mills.
If you don’t have a lot of money to spend, I recommend the book Online Writing Careers: 11 Tips on How to Earn $75,000 – $100,000 Per Year as a Freelance Web Writer by Yuwanda Black. The book currently only cost $3.99 for the Kindle version at Amazon.
If you are willing to spend a little more money and learn a whole lot more, then check out The Freelance Writers Den. This is a membership that provides you with several e-courses on making a living as a writer as well as increasing your earnings, as well as weekly webinars, a forum full of other supportive writers, and access to all the past webinars and recordings. You are free to cancel the membership at any time, but once you find all the information you receive and how much good advice you can find inside, you most likely won’t want to cancel it any time soon.
If you follow the advice that is laid out in the book by Black and the Freelance Writer’s Den you will no longer have to write for $5 an article. You won’t be wondering if you are going to make your income goals for the month. You won’t be worried that if Demand Studios or any other content mill let you go you couldn’t pay your bills. Instead you set your prices and you carry the power.
Although you can never count on any once client for your income, content mills are closing down left and right, letting writers who have been with them for years go and are losing money which means they soon won’t be able to afford to pay the writers they have.
Don’t get left behind and not know how to land your own clients or market your services properly.
Instead you should control your writing business. You should decide how much you charge for your articles. You should have clients emailing you to work for them.
If you want to take control of your freelance writing business and stop depending on low paying content mills for work, then get with the program now. Or you may just find yourself kicked out of another content site and left worrying how you are going to pay your bills.
*These resources are also great for beginnners who may not even write for content mills yet and want to find out how to become a freelance writer online*
